Home / Stories / Hopestead nominated for ‘Homelessness project of the year’ at UK Housing Awards

Hopestead is absolutely thrilled to announce the Hope at Home initiative has been shortlisted at the 2024 UK Housing Awards in the ‘Homelessness project of the year’ category.

Hope at Home is one of our key initiatives and is all about ensuring that those moving into accommodation, coming from a route of homelessness, have what they need to make a home and take control of their future.

We know that people moving into social housing from a route of homelessness are three times more likely than others to face homelessness again in the future. On top of that, we also know that those moving into their first home following a period of homelessness are often moving in with little to no furniture, or indeed the financial means to fill an empty house with the items they would need to consider their house a home.

Through Hope at Home, we’ve been able to provide people and families with household essentials. These include bedroom and lounge furniture such as beds, sofas and coffee tables, kitchen appliances like cookers, fridge-freezers and washing machines, and other vital things such as microwaves, toasters, kettles, cutlery, crockery and vacuum cleaners.

Living without these essential items can have a devastating impact on health and happiness, and that is what Hope at Home aims to address. We’re so, so honoured to have been recognised in this shortlist – we’re up against some stiff competition from nine other incredibly valuable projects, so to be nominated is something we’re very proud of.

The UK Housing Awards take place on Tuesday 26 November in Manchester, and until then we’ll be keeping everything crossed. The full shortlist is available on the UK Housing Awards website: ukhousingawards.co.uk/shortlist.
